TRUONG SA MUSEUM
HONORABLE MENTION
Khanh Hoa province has a reputation for its diversity of nature and combines mountain-sea-island terrains to create a small image of little Vietnam. This presents itself in the poetic name: the Land of “Agarwood and Swallow’s Nest”. Khanh Hoa is also renowned for Truong Sa island, which is not only significant for economic development but also has an important position in national defense, security and national sovereignty of sea and islands.

The design draws inspiration from the island’s Bàng Vuông flower symbol to create a public space that is lively and fascinating for all to enjoy.
With 13000 m2 GFA, the museum facilitates efficient amenities such as an auditorium, exhibitions, outdoor spaces, storage systems and other public facilities that allow visitors to have practical experiences through technological applications which are provided inside interior spaces. Thanks to the technology, the museum not only might become an attractive destination for the younger generation, but also can provide activities the young visitors to gain experience about the rich history of the island. The overall project consists of one basement and three upper floors, with GFA of 5770.4m2 and the building height of 28.8m. There are five main functional blocks that are located in each area.
The entrance area that is located toward the Gac Ma memorial park helps visitors easily access the building once they complete the journey of the Gac Ma memorial park. The domestic and international reception rooms, conference room on 1st floor meet the needs of different types of visitors, domestic and foreign, groups and individuals, the citizens from provinces and local citizens. In addition, the design proposes to add a side entrance from coastal park on the 1st floor. The services such as restaurant, coffee space are also located on the 1st floor to serve visitors once they complete their journey.
The proposed design incorporates waterscape elements into the project to help visitors visualize the atmosphere, life and typical nature of the archipelago. The proposed water spaces create a park characterized by island scenery, which combines outdoor exhibitions and playground
The indoor exhibition spaces are designed to vary in layout based on the themes that are emphasize the uniqueness of each space to encourage the visitor’s excitement. For example, the theme of richness and diversity of nature; is expressed in the interior space which depicts vividly the outstanding features of the archipelago such as coral reefs, aquatic resources, geology and hydrology. Another theme is the history of Truong Sa; the interior space utilizes historical events, evidence and figures. The theme of social-cultural economic center of Truong Sa is presented in the space using 3D hologram projection technology to showcase documents, interviews, stories, and the life of Navi soldiers. In this way, visitors can experience the actual life in Truong Sa with the help of technology.
Temporary exhibition spaces are frequently used to organize various events of Khanh Hoa province, exhibitions, and the reports in Truong Sa. The exhibition space can operate independently of permanent exhibition spaces and other events organized. The outdoor courtyard acts as a multi-purpose public space to organize events and seminars.
