PHU KIENG BRIDGE
SHORTLISTED TOP 5 DESIGN PROPOSAL
Phu Kieng Bridge, located in Nha Trang City, spans the Cai River in Khanh Hoa Province. With a total length of 280 meters and a width of 18 meters, the bridge not only facilitates daily transportation needs but also serves as vital infrastructure connecting the northern and southern banks of the Cai River.

The bridge plays a key role in enhancing transportation networks, improving the efficiency of goods movement, enriching the urban environment, and boosting both citizen income and the city’s economy. It aims to support Nha Trang’s vision of becoming a coastal city with strong tourism, financial, and commercial development — reaching national and Southeast Asian high-end standards.
The proposed design features two main arches formed by gracefully curved steel structures that rise toward the center and taper down toward the ends, resembling wings. This form offers structural efficiency for the bridge’s two main spans of 100 meters each.
Rising 30 meters high, the arches are anchored at their bases by concrete box girders, which distribute the structural loads to the bridge’s piers. At the top, the arches lean inward and are connected by a system of steel bracing, ensuring structural stability.
The gentle curves of the supporting piers and abutments blend seamlessly into the arches, defining a new architectural landmark within Nha Trang’s transportation infrastructure. Pedestrian walkways on both sides are linked and expanded in the center of the bridge, creating a space for photo opportunities, fireworks, and special events.
The piers and abutments are constructed using in-situ reinforced concrete techniques. The steel box sections of each arch are prefabricated according to precise design specifications, enabling easier transportation and on-site assembly. Similarly, the box girder sections — including the cable anchor points — are also prefabricated and assembled on-site using welding techniques.
Parks along the riverbanks are designed to provide ample space for public gatherings, scenic views, and community activities during special events. The overall design emphasizes visual connectivity with the river, offering decks and pedestrian paths along or extending over the river, allowing people to fully appreciate the beauty of the bridge.
